Amada Cadena Lopez passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on March 10, 2025, at the age of 93, in Floresville, Texas. Born on July 9, 1931, in Alice, Texas, to Fernando and Blanca Cadena, Amada's life was a testament of her love of family and community.
Amada's early years were spent working diligently, picking cotton and later serving as a housekeeper at P&S Hospital, where her integrity and work ethic shone brightly. As a homemaker, she was known for her immaculate housekeeping. She was a model of cleanliness and order, ensuring that her home was not only a place of comfort but also a reflection of her respect and dedication to her family. The kitchen was the heart of her home and is where she truly excelled. It is where she created her famous and delicious carne guisada and pollo guisado.
Each morning, Amada began her day by applying her makeup. She also started with a cup coffee paired with a Honey Bun pastry, a simple pleasure that she enjoyed. This special routine also included working on her word search puzzles.
Her love for life was evident in her passion for dancing and her enjoyment of the Tejano music that played on the radio, YouTube, or CDs. Amada also loved mariachi music. She was a devoted fan of Roberto Pulido, whose songs brought joy to her heart and a put a spring in her step. She was also the #1 fan of the Dallas Cowboys and wouldn't miss their games on television.
Amada's home was a welcoming venue to all who visit, and to many she lovingly helped raise, living her faith through her acts of kindness. She was a woman of strength, and courage, who believed in the power of family unity, Faith in God's Will and always radiating joy, peace and love through her deeds and actions.
Amada is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raul C. Lopez; her parents, Fernando and Blanca Cadena; her sons, Rolando Lopez and Hector Lopez; her siblings Emma (John) Newby, Emilia (Lloyd) Grau, Arnoldo T. Cadena, Norberto Cadena, Nene Cadena, and Amando Cadena; her son-in-law Dino Castaneda Jr.; and her brothers-in-law Claudio Hinojosa, Ernesto Gonzalez, Ernest Lopez, and Jesus Guzman.
Amada's legacy continues through her daughters, Gloria (Antonio) Garza and Norma Castaneda; her granddaughter Brenda (Johnny) Jones; her siblings Tina Hinojosa, Lydia Gonzalez, Esther Lopez and Estella Guzman; her daughters-in-law, Josie Lopez and Angela Lopez; her sisters-in-law Gloria Cadena, Juanita Cadena, Ziola Cadena, and San Juana Cadena; and the joys and loves of her life, her 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Amada's life was a reflection of the words that best describe her as loving, faith-filled, and selfless. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing this extraordinary woman.
Amada's family will receive condolences on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Trevino Funeral Home, located at 120 E. Front St., from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday, March 17, 2025, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, TX. Her Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at San Diego Cemetery.
Honoring Amada as pallbearers are Rolando Lopez Jr., Raul Lopez, Hector Garza Javier Benitez, Larry Escareno Jr., Gibby Torres, Dennis Hinojosa, Rene Cadena, and Honorary Pallbearer, Guyel Torres.
