Amitt Carter, 87. of Pine Bluff, AR, formerly of Columbia, MO, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbia at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM at the church.
Amitt Arthur Carter passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones after a lengthy of illness.
Amitt was born on January 17th, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Thomas O. Carter, Sr., and Mrs. Eva Porter Carter. He was the youngest of 4 children born to this union.
Amitt served during the Korean war where he was honorably discharged.
Amitt accepted Christ on March 21, 2024 at Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Travis Harden.
Amitt was an avid fisherman and he loved to listen to the blues, and play dominoes. He was always the fly dresser with his Fedora, Cowboy hats, and pressed clothing, and he always drove a Cadillac, always.
He was the beloved father and grandfather that all of his descendents felt they were his favorite.
Amitt was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents. Brothers Thomas O. Carter, Jr., and Winston James Carter, a sister Mary Carter Freeman, one grandson Shawn Long and two great grandchildren, Delsean Smith-Richardson, and Ashley Richardson.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife Bonnie L. Carter of 49 years, two sons James Kevin Suffern, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Nicholas Carter of Columbia, Missouri, eight daughters Debra Long, Toni Carter-Woods (Rodney), Bobbia Carter of Columbia, Missouri, Veronica Holland of Altadena, California, Margaret Carter of Mes-quite, Texas, Marilyn Smith, Lisa Kearney of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Rosaline Martin (Kevin) of England, Arkansas. There are 44 grandchildren, 98 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren to where his legacy will live on.

To the family of Amitt Arthur Carter,

We, the officers, and members of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church are extending our heartfelt sympathy to family and friends in the home going of Bro. Carter we encourage you during this time to pause and remember the many blessings that God allowed you to enjoy together and to also take courage to face the days ahead with the comfort of knowing that you will meet again in heaven one day. Many people look upon death as a sad occasion and often beyond our understanding, but God's infinite wisdom knows what is best and his will is done according to his plan.

Rejoice with him and thank our Heavenly Father for the life he lived among those who loved him. He will truly be missed by family and friends throughout the community. We are praying for you, may God bless each of you and give you strength and courage. Continue to make God your hope and look up to the hills from whence cometh your help, to comfort your hearts and minds during this time.
