Amos Ezekiel "Zeke" Barker, devoted husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, brother and friend departed this life to enter his eternal home on October 27,2021.
Amos was the 3rd of 6 children born to Julia Coker Barker and Bartlett A. Barker on January 21, 1936. He grew up in the Pope City Community of Wilcox County. He Graduated from Pineview High School in 1953. He was popular with his classmates and remained close to them until his death.
On December 6, 1956 he wed the love of his life, Peggy Mays Barker and for 65 years they shared a wonderful life together they were blessed with two children, Kathy Ann Barker and Joel Todd Barker together. Amos was a devoted husband and Father always putting them first in his life. He loved his God and was a great student of the Bible. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hawkinsville where he served his SS Class as secretary and served on various committees. He was a former member of the Woodmen of the World.
Shortly after his high school graduation, he began his working career at Robins Air Force Base where he worked for 45 years before retiring. He took great pride in his work and it showed because his retirement party was one he was proud of. He received letters of appreciation from: President Bill Clinton, Joe Carter USAF Commandeer, Max Cleland, U. S. State Senator, Zell Miller, Governor of Georgia, Donald Walker, Mayor of Warner Robins and Major General Richard Goddard USAF Commander. A Key to the City of Warner Robins was presented to him by Mayor Walker. He received the flag that was flown over the U. S. Capital on the day he retired (9-30-1998).
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, Son; Joel Todd Barker of Hawkinsville; Grandchildren- Russ Rhodes of Pineview, Wes Rhodes (Nicole) of Perry. Sarah Beth Barker and Sam Barker of Hawkinsville; Great Granddaughter, Lily Rhodes of Perry; Sister- Mary McElmurray of Perry.
Preceding him in death were his parents; Daughter and Son in Law Kathy and Terry Rhodes, Sisters: Wynelle Ledford and Janette Braziel; Brothers: Bart Barker and George Ashley Barker.
Visitation will be on Thursday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Clark Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM in the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church with Rev. Don McClung, Tommy Dawson and Rev. Tracy Mays officiating. Burial will be in the Barker Family Plot at Friendship Church Cemetery.
