With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Friend Andrea Alukonis, who died peacefully July 10, 2025 at Port Healthcare, surrounded by love and support. She is now reunited in death with her parents Andrew and Louise (Latauska) Alukonis.
As a graduate of Lynn Classical HS and the Museum School at Tufts University, Andrea was a professional and accomplished sculptor, painter and a life-long teacher, fostering the love of art to so many, as recently as 2024, teaching abstract art classes at the Newburyport Senior Center. Her extraordinary sculptures frequently exhibited in Boston, New York, and European galleries as well as locally in Marblehead and Newburyport. Andrea’s spirit will live on through her expressive art. A devoted animal lover, Andrea was never without the love of a good dog, especially her little “Peanut,” and always a cat or two.
She will be dearly missed by her family and her close circle of “the girls,” who truly lived their golden years with love and laughter. Andrea was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her dearest friend and beloved brother Robert Alukonis of Danvers, MA., her daughter Arleen Shea and husband Ken of Byfield MA., daughter Lenore Ministeri and husband Chris of Brookfield NH., and her son Glen Scannell and wife Abigail of Key West FL. Andrea was the cherished Grandmother to Thomas Gowing and his wife Amanda of Westford, MA., Emma Shea and her husband Samuel Quirk of Epping NH., and her grandson Michael Shea of Newburyport, MA. She was also the beloved Great-Grandmother of Nathan Thomas Gowing of Westford, MA.
Visiting hours for Andrea will be held at Elliot, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, in Newburyport, Friday July 18, from 4-6 PM. Burial Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, family requests any donations to be made to Newburyport Art Association, where Andrea dedicated herself through work and support for more than 20 years.
