Anita Katherine Marquez passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6th, 2025. She was surrounded by her family and the wonderful care team watching over her. Everyone gave her the upmost respect, love, and care. In her final moment, she thanked the nurse that cared for her. This sentiment was repeatedly voiced while she received care from her daughter and medical team.
Anita was born on January 26, 1943, in El Paso, TX to Roy Earl Estes, Jr and Ora Mae Dollard.
She was naturally gifted in school and loved to read, play the piano, ride bikes, all with a true zest for life.
A Graduate from Burges High School, El Paso, TX 1960.
She went on to graduate from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in1966. Nursing was a true passion and calling where sheflourished in multiple positions and specialties. 1966 she started her RN career at Hotel Dieu Hospital. 1967-1968 Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Massachusetts, Pediatrics. 1969-1973 she began exploring the operating room field at Jan Jacinto Methodist Hospital, Baytown, TX. 1970-1971 She worked with children as an ICU-CCU nurse. 1971-1972 She, again, worked with children at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, TX. 1972 her leadership abilities emerged, and she worked as a head nurse of CCU-ICU. Later that year she branched out to work with M.D. Anderson, Houston TX as a Research Tech- RN on the research of Acute Leukemia. 1973 -1975 She again branched out in the ENT field in Pasadena Texas for a doctor's office. In 1975 She worked at Sun Towers Hospital, EL Paso, TX an operating room nurse. 1975-1977 she worked as the head nurse for public school Ysleta Head Start. 1977-1978 She was a surgery staff nurse at San Antonio Community Hospital. 1978- 1981 She worked as a Health Service Supervisor for Bexar County MHMR. 1981-2007 her largest stint with her nursing career was spent in Houston Tx Memorial Hermann- Texas Medical Center Level 1 Trauma Center as scrub and holding room head nurse. In 2007 she then retired from nursing.
Throughout her nursing career she continued her education with Leadership management course, Coronary Course, Allergy Course at Tulane University, and additional nursing credits with University of El Paso.
Her vast nursing career was in tandem with raising her only child, Andrea. She was as passionate about her career as she wasabout raising her daughter, instilling all the values and morals, and love along with her dedication to nursing.
She gave so much of herself in helping others while raising her daughter.
Later in life when she needed help, it became clear that her nursing hat never came off. She was lovingly called "The Boss" with the entire staff as she continued to watch over fellow residents, alerting the nurses if someone appeared to need help. In addition, she always checked in with the staff to ensure all was in order on the floor. And in her final years, she continued to ask if everyone was okay around her, all solidifying nursing was in her blood.
A tribute to nurses known as Nightingale Tribute ceremony commemorates a nurse by lighting a single white candle to symbolize the nurse's dedication and commitment to the profession. In addition, a single white rose is presented to symbolize esteem and gratitude for their service.
In honor of her service to others, please light a single whitecandle.
A single white rose will be dedicated to her by her daughter Andrea at the place where she is laid to rest.
It is time for her to rest in the hands of God and angels in peace and serenity and hang up her nursing hat.
Anita is survived by her daughter Andrea Marquez-Rudowicz (Mark) of Westminster, CO.
Anita will be laid to rest in a graveside ceremony on Friday, July 11 at 9:00 a.m. at Broomfield County Commons Cemetery.
