Anita Thresse Harden Shufelt, 101, of Edna, went home to be with her Lord, July 7, 2025.
Anita was born December 9, 1923, in Edna, Kansas, to Walter and Dorsie (Fahler) Harden. Anita graduated from Edna High School in 1942 and married Verl Shufelt April 26, 1943. Verl preceded her in death on March 21, 2017.
While her husband was away during the war, Anita worked in Coffeyville, Kansas, as a seamstress. Anita was a housewife, raising their three children.
She enjoyed tending her fruit trees and blackberries. Anita and Verl enjoyed traveling and had many trips overseas with friends during their retirement years.
Besides her husband, Anita was preceded in death by one son, Walter Leslie Shufelt.
Anita is survived by two daughters, Linda Hellwig (Gale) of Chetopa, Kansas; and Debie Cornog (Larry) of Columbus, Kansas; her daughter-in-law, Linda Shufelt of Bella Vista, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Matt Hellwig (Lindsie) of Bentonville, Arkansas, Ryan Hellwig of Eudora, Kansas, Scott Shufelt (Mindy) of Rogers, Arkansas, Chrissi Crumpton (JC) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Jennifer Westervelt (Doug) of Columbus, Kansas, and Melissa Dunnic (Billy) of Carthage, Missouri; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren
The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Chetopa. Burial will follow at Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m., Saturday, until the service begins.
Memorials are suggested to The 506 Foundation to benefit the Verl and Anita Shufelt Scholarship fund. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
