Anita West passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, at the age of 81 in Lubbock, Texas. Born on December 2, 1943, in Lamesa, Texas, Anita was known for her vibrant spirit and her deep love for her family and friends.
Anita was cherished for her warmth and generosity, particularly her passion for cooking and feeding those around her. Her culinary delights brought joy to many in Levelland, and she often took great pleasure in sharing meals with anyone who came through her door. An animal lover at heart, Anita owned several pets throughout her life, always nurturing and caring for them with the same kindness she showed to people.
Beyond her culinary talents, Anita was a familiar voice in the community as a contributor to the KLVT radio show, where her "Words of Wisdom" resonated with listeners, offering insight and encouragement. Her thoughtful advice and engaging personality made her a treasured figure in the local community.
Anita also enjoyed her time at the nursing home, often finding joy in activities such as bingo, where she would share laughter and stories with her fellow residents. Her memory will forever be accompanied by the laughter and camaraderie she fostered among those who were lucky enough to know her.
Anita is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mills; her son, Leroy West and his wife, Heather; her grandson, Danny Lee; her granddaughters, TyLanna Lee and Skyla Maddox; her grandson, Zach West; and her great- grandchildren, Parker and Charlotte Maddox. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, A.L. and Opal Shipman; her husband, Wayne West; and her daughter, Shonna West.
A memorial service to honor Anita's life will be held on July 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Second Baptist Church, located at 301 Cherry Street, Levelland, TX 79336. All who knew Anita are invited to join in celebrating her remarkable life and the love she shared with all.
