Anna Grace Foster, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2025.
She was born on October 2, 1930 in Baltimore Md. She and her siblings were raised in Nutley, NJ and had an idyllic youth, even during World War II. Trips to the Jersey Shore and overnights on the Bay Line Steamers to her grandparents farm in Gloucester were some of her fondest memories.
She received a Bachelor's Degree in 1952 from Hood College and was married soon after to Robert Schuster. Following his early death, she moved to Gloucester and began working for Colonial Williamsburg in the Publications Department. She then married Lewis Foster, professor of Philosophy at William & Mary.
Anna Grace's many activities included being a Welcome Wagon lady, volunteering in the school system, singing in the Williamsburg Choral Guild, and working with the League of Women Voters. She and Lew were founding members of St. Martin's Episcopal Church and she also attended the Universal Unitarian Church.
Anna Grace's primary career was as the Publicity and Cultural Director at the Williamsburg Regional Library. She also worked for many years in the Voter Registrar's office and all Elections. An avid traveler, one of her most amazing experiences was a year spent in India with her family (giving her an eternal love of Indian food). Other travels took her to Spain, Morocco and the Yucatan, with Elderhostel trips to Mexica and (her favorite) Italy.
She became a prolific painter in oils and acrylics. She wrote three novels and a children's short story. Anna Grace was true people person and lived with integrity, respect and abundant positivity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence E. and Elsie W. Boyd, and brother, Lawrence E. Boyd Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Deagle (Doug) and son, Lewis A. Foster III, her grandson, William W. Deagle, sister Virginia Lee Boyd and brother William M. Boyd (Zohara).
