Tony Barrett was born to Grace and Wilford Barrett and raised in Niagara Falls NY where he graduated from LaSalle High School in 1956. He attended Purdue University and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Tony served in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps. He worked for Praxair, formally the Linde Division of Union Carbide as a control systems engineer, retiring in 1994. He was a senior member of the Instrument Society of America, holding local and national offices and was a registered professional engineer in control systems.
One of Tony's many interests were playing hockey as well as coaching youth hockey in Tennessee and New York. He was a member of the New York State Designer Blacksmiths, a former national officer of the Clan Gunn Society of North America, and an avid bagpiper. He played with multiple Bands: The Gordon Highlanders in Buffalo NY, The Orlando Regional Police & Fire Pipes and Drums, The Highland Brigade of Sebring, FL, The Jacobite Pipe Band of Sarasota, FL, as well as Rosie O'Grady's Highlanders in Orlando, FL and the Alaska Highlanders and Anchorage Scottish Pipe Band in Anchorage, AK. Tony was an astronomy docent at the Orlando Science Center and a volunteer at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, GA.
After retiring to Davenport, FL, Tony played tennis and was an active member of the High Vista Community. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Betty, for 50 years. After her passing in 2009 he moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 2010. In Anchorage he met his partner, Nadya Kelson. They later moved to Tucson, Arizona until her passing in 2020. Tony married Arlene Stephl in 2021.
He is survived by sons William (Diana) Barrett of Marietta, GA, Thomas (Denise) Barrett of Anchorage, AK. He has four grandchildren, Robert (Briann) Barrett, Allison Barrett, Megan (Ian) Mills, Wyatt Barrett and one great grandchild, Rain Barrett.
Tony will be entered into rest with Betty at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
