Anthony Francis Grassia, Jr., fondly known as "Papa T, passed away peacefully in his Wilmington home, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Born in Somerville on July 13, 1940, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rafaela Grassia. Papa T will be remembered joyfully for his effortless zest for life and everlasting charm. He was an entertainer who loved people, and his infectious personality was one of the reasons many considered him their "Papa." He touched every soul he came into contact with in such a positive and loving way.
Anthony joined the Army National Guard in 1962 as Military Police. He loved music and having a good time, and he had a special "joie de vivre." Especially on the dance floor, where he loved to move, he was quite skilled at dancing. He often spoke fondly of learning to dance through classes he took.
Anthony worked in hospitality, assisting at a senior living facility, and loved being a part of such an amazing community. His love for others was always ever-present, and over the years, it only grew stronger. Though he had many accomplishments, the one he was most proud of was his family.
Papa T is survived by his eldest son, Anthony M. Grassia; his wife, Dayle; her sons, Ryan and Christopher Stilian; and their daughter, Brooke Grassia, Papa T's first grandchild. He is also survived by his younger son, Michael F. Grassia; his wife, Julie; and their daughter, Emelina. He is further survived by his brother, Vincent Grassia, and his wife, Evelyn (Sapphire); his sister, Annette Lally; his partner of nearly 40 years, Joann Provost and her family including her son John Rodriguez & his wife Eileen and their children John, Mike and Ellen; her daughter Wendy Rodriguez and her daughter Kiley and her children. Anthony was also loved by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Papa T will be missed and thought of every day. We hope that every time you hear his name, a smile comes to your face, along with memories you will never forget.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Papa's Life at Rocco's Restaurant, 193 Main St., (Rte. 38) Wilmington on Sunday, July 13th from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
