With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of Anthony Eugene Porter, known to all as Tony, a devoted man of faith, a pillar in his community, and a beloved father, grandfather, boyfriend, and friend to many. He entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the age of 67, surrounded by the prayers and love of his family.
Born in Washington D.C. to Charles and Arlena Porter, he was the seventh of eight brothers and sisters and was raised to treasure family, friendship, gratitude, and compassion. Above all, he was a servant of God - not only in words but in the way he lived, loved, and led.
Tony was a hard-working man and the proud owner of a carpet cleaning business. He moved to Montross in 2016 and quickly became a friend to all in the community, spending his days active at the church, making frequent trips to the local market, and sharing laughs while relaxing on the deck with one of his dearest friends Randy.
Tony lived life to the fullest. He loved music - performing in bands, singing, and playing drums. He even referred to himself as "Rasta 4 life" demonstrating his love for reggae music and the dreadlocks he'd had for many years. He also loved to cook on the grill, loved to fish, and had a sincere love for dogs.
Tony was a dedicated member at Currioman Baptist Church. Whether he was volunteering at Vacation Bible School, or simply greeting everyone with sincerity, he exemplified what it meant to walk humbly with God. Tony's life was a living testimony to charm and dignity. With his outgoing nature, Tony easily connected with people and was always fun to be around. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Arlena Porter, and his brother Eddie Bonham. He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Aisha and son-in law Sheldon; his son Antonio; their mother Sheritta; his devoted girlfriend, Lisa, and children he loved as his own, Santell and Richard; his sisters Barbara, Carol, and Charlene, his brothers Larry, Donald, and Christopher; his grandson Antonio II; grandchildren he loved as his own, Kalissa, Terrance, Micah, and Detrell; his dogs Bo and Daisy; his extended family, church family, and many friends.
A visitation will be held at Welch Funeral Home, 17456 Kings Highway in Montross VA at 5:00 – 6:00 pm on Wednesday June 18th, and Tony's funeral service will be held at Currioman Baptist Church, 2383 Zacata Road in Montross on the following day, Thursday June 19th, at 12:00 pm with a visitation held the hour prior. Interment will be at Currioman Cemetery on Chilton Road immediately following the service, weather permitting. The Porter family warmly invites you to repass at Currioman Baptist Church at 2:00 pm, where all can share fond memories and laughter, as Tony would have wanted.
Though we mourn, we do not mourn without hope. Anthony Eugene Porter ran his race with endurance, kept the faith, and now rests in peace in the arms of the Lord.
