Arliss "Butch" Farley

December 2, 1948 – July 14, 2025

With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Arliss "Butch" Farley on July 14, 2025, at the age of 76. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend, Butch lived a life grounded in family and the simple joys of the outdoors.

Born on December 2, 1948, and raised in the hills of southern West Virginia, Butch was a man shaped by the strength and resilience of the region he called home. He spent the majority of his working life as a coal miner-a profession that demanded grit and determination, all of which he carried with quiet pride. Through long days and hard labor, Butch never wavered in his commitment to providing for his family and honoring his roots.

For Butch, peace was found in the woods, where he spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and soaking in the quiet beauty of the land. These moments, whether alone or shared with loved ones, brought him joy and a deep sense of connection to the world around him.

In his later years, Butch embraced the role he cherished most-that of a grandfather. He poured his heart into his eight grandchildren, taking delight in every story, and every shared memory. His laughter, guidance, and gentle spirit will live on through them.

Butch is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Anna Farley, whose love was the cornerstone of his life; his children Brian Farley (Jamie), Leigh Ann Hosey (Michael), and Matthew Farley (Sarah), who carry his strength and character forward; his loving mother, Mabel Farley; and two devoted sisters, Vicki West and Benita Sauchuck. His legacy also lives on through his eight cherished grandchildren, Makayla & Tyler Hosey , Zachary Pegram, Logan, Emma & Olivia Farley, Norah & Silas Farley.

To know Butch was to know kindness, loyalty, and a quiet strength that uplifted everyone around him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his warm heart, quick wit, and the way he loved to joke and laugh with those around him.

A private family service will be held to honor his life, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend a quiet moment in nature fishing pole in hand or walking among the trees in his memory.
