Artemio Carrillo Obituary

Artemio Barrio Carrillo, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on July 7, 2025, in Toppenish, WA, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Rancho Salitrillo Tepetongo, Zacatecas, Mexico, and brought his strong work ethic and joyful spirit with him wherever life took him.

On October 13, 1978, Artemio married the love of his life, Delia (Vasquez), and together they built a beautiful family rooted in love and laughter. They raised four children—Joey, Aracely, Artemio Jr., and Martin-who will along with their families carry on his legacy.

Artemio dedicated his life to working in agriculture, a field he proudly committed himself to until his retirement in 2019. Known for his sense of humor and zest for life, Artemio was most at home outdoors—fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time on his farm. He had a green thumb and a talent for cooking, especially when camping, always turning a simple meal into a family event.

He loved to dance, sing, and play pool and baseball, even joining local leagues. One of his greatest joys was singing to his wife and harmonizing with his favorite goddaughter, Lila Suarez. After retiring, he found peace and happiness feeding his animals, spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoying pajaretes on Sundays with those closest to him.

Artemio is survived by his loving wife Delia; his children, Joey (Pancha), Aracely (Mario), Artemio Jr. (Felicia), and Martin. His grandchildren, Joseph, Delia, Mercedes, Jojo, Kassy, Thalia, Xabian, Joel, Aleah, Little Artie, Malia, and baby Ali; and great-grandchildren Harmony and Andres. He also leaves behind his siblings Ines, Marina, Apolonio, Raymundo, and Juan, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jubentina Barrios and Martin Carrillo, brothers Jesus and Catarino, and his nephew Ricky Carrillo.

A viewing will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato, WA. A Rosary will take place from 6:00-7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 15, at St. Peter Claver Church, followed by burial at the Wapato Cemetery. A reception will be held afterward at the Wapato Community Center.
