On the early morning of Thursday, May 8, 2025, Arttis went home to be with the Lord. It took everyone but the Lord by surprise. He went quietly into the morning light. Arttis was born on Nov. 8, 1950 in Ludowici, GA to the union between the late Henry Baggs, Sr. and the late Alberta Jackson Baggs. One of 15 children, Arttis was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
As a young man Arttis went North seeking a better life. There he met and married the love of his life Rosezena Williams on July 10, 1971. Of that union two children were born, one son, Andre and one daughter, Alyssa "Peach".
Arttis worked for the railroad and in 2001 he retired from CSX after 30 years of hard work and devoted service. Everyone who knew "Big Daddy" loved him. His trademark was his red "Big Daddy" F-150 and his cowboy hat. If you knew Arttis you loved him. He was kind generous and easy going. He never tried to be anybody but "Big Daddy". Arttis has left a legacy of love for all who knew him. He is absent from the body and present with the Lord.
Arttis will be extremely missed by his wife of 53 years, Rosezena; his son, Andre Baggs; his daughter, Alyssa "Peach" Baggs; his granddaughter, Tamara Callen; his grandson, Christion; 2 great grandsons, Kyrie and Saint James; 2 brothers, James Baggs ( Letha Mae), William Baggs (Lenore); 3 sisters, Rosalee Johnson, Detroit, MI, Joyce Baggs, Newark, NJ, Cathy Jean Baggs Ludowici, GA; 3 sisters-law, Vivian Whitehurst, Queens,NY, Edna Sanders, Brooklyn, NY, Denise Bright, Treer, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
There will never be another Big Daddy like Big Daddy. To God be the glory.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545.
