Aubrey Cates Obituary
Aubrey Vollie "A.V" Cates Jr., 88, of Odessa, died Monday, July 21, 2025, in Odessa.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM July 26, 2025, at Sherwood Church of Christ in Odessa. Dr. Carl Cates is officiating. Arrangements are by American Heritage Funeral Home of Midland.

A.V. was a congenial and dedicated teacher.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. Great , kind teacher. He was my favorite teacher at Permian High. He made us strive to be our very best. Such a legacy. He will be missed. Condolences to the family

Senor Cates tried to teach me Spanish for several years. Although I couldn't quite get a handle on the language, he was so patient and kind. He was a special teacher and truly cared about his students. Blessings to his family from this PHS 1985 grad.

Mercy-me.....just thinking of Mr. Cates not too long ago. Was a great teacher, nice human being. Kind of teachers I wish I could have had contact with after graduating. Fond memories of him raving about the actual fountain Coca-Cola at the drugstore in Ft. Davis. Also remembering him breaking the news of a classmate that was killed while biking to school in the morning. Class of 84. Rest in Peace.....
