Brenda Kate Lockridge Howard, age 81, passed away peacefully at her residence in Cochran, Georgia, on Monday, October 20, 2025. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mathis Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025, in the chapel of Mathis Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private at Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.

Brenda was born in Cedartown, Georgia, to the late Samuel Mitchell and Ruby Williams Lockridge. She grew up in Cedartown and graduated from Cedartown High School with the class of 1962. She later attended Berry College, where she met her future husband, Leslie Thomas Howard Sr. In 1968, Brenda and Leslie moved to Cochran to begin their life together.

Throughout her career, Brenda held several positions that reflected her dedication and work ethic. She worked at the Magic Market and L&H Shirt Factory before joining Middle Georgia College's financial aid department, where she eventually retired. She also contributed her time and talents to the Bleckley County Extension Office and 4-H program, assisting with poultry judging events. Brenda and Leslie also owned and operated the Cochran Sears Store.

She was a member of Cochran First Methodist Church and remained active in her community throughout her life.

Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Thomas Howard Sr.; her sister, Gayle Mercer; brothers-in-law Clarke Mercer, Ronald Embry, and Wesley Whittle; and sister-in-law Shirley Embry.

She is survived by her sons: Leslie T. Jr. (Mandi) Howard of Kathleen and Lee (Sherry) Howard of Cochran; grandchildren Elizabeth Howard and A.J. Howard of Cochran; sister Reba (Paul) Daly of Canton; sister-in-law June Whittle of Chester; several cousins, nieces, nephews; and her beloved grand dog, Moonshine.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care during this time.

The family will receive visitors at their home located at 215 E Peter Street in Cochran.
