Austin Robert Downey, 55, of Queens, NY, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025.
Austin was born on November 10, 1969, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. He attended high school in Coral Gables, FL, and at the age of 17, moved to NYC to attend university at both NYU and Hunter College. He never lost his love for the city, residing there for over 35 years.
Music was Austin's passion. He was a well-known DJ at legendary NYC clubs, including the Limelight and Palladium, and enjoyed creating music for family and friends.
He was employed by the City of NY as a 311 supervisor for almost twenty years.
Austin is survived by his stepmother, Susan Downey; sister, Stephanie Ruhland and husband, John; brother, Kevin Downey and wife, Caitlin; sister, Courtnie Porter, and husband, Willie; three nephews, Connor, Carson and Elijah; five nieces, McKenna, Cassidy, Dakota, Scarlett, and Savannah; along with many friends he considered family.
He was predeceased by his father, Hugh R. Downey, in 2021; and mother, Barbara Nardiello, in 2023.
Austin's compassionate character was apparent by the gift of life he gave through LIVE-On NY organ donation.

Austin's family wishes to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to all of the first responders, doctors, and nurses who cared for him. I've known Austin for decades and this was a big shock to hear about his passing. Austin was a beautiful human being, so funny and so talented and so sweet. He helped me through a very bad time and I am forever garteful to know him. I love you Austin and in my mind Perry met her at the pearly gates and you are back to blissful love. XOXOXO

When you lose a coworker it hits you as hard as losing a family member. After all coworkers are around each other more waking hours than with family sometimes. Austin was such a gem, laid back with a quiet cool. Austin Powers is how I´d greet him. May you finally find that peace in your rest brother. You will be missed.

Austin has been in our lives for forty plus years , from vacations to birthdays and more . He came to celebrate my 80th birthday with us this April . He will be missed .
