Ayupe Shaheen Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ayupe J. Shaheen, age 90, of Tupper Lake, NY, will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 3:00PM at St. Alphonsus Church with Rev. James Teti officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery following funeral services. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM to 2:00PM on Monday, June 23, 2025, at Frary Funeral Home. Mr. Shaheen passed away on Wednesday morning, June 18, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family under the care of High Peaks Hospice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Tupper Lake.
Ayupe is survived by his four sons, Timothy J. Shaheen and his wife, Karen, of Northridge, CA, Rodney A. Shaheen and his wife, April, of Austin, TX, Paul Shaheen and his wife, Maureen, of Tupper Lake, NY, and Andrew J. Shaheen and his wife, Tina, of Tupper Lake, NY; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Rebecca, Casper, Conner, Nathan, Justin, Austin, Quinn, and Griffin Shaheen; five great-grandchild, Clayton, Preston, Addie, Sadie, and Zoe Shaheen; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anecy Shaheen; his daughter, Pamela H. Shaheen; sister, Mateele S. Kall and brothers, Shaheen J. Shaheen, Joseph Shaheen Jr., Thomas Shaheen, and George Shaheen.
Ayupe was born on September 17, 1934, in Tupper Lake, NY, the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Anecy (Frank) Shaheen. He graduated from Tupper Lake High School. Ayupe proudly enlisted in the United States Army in 1959 and later was honorably discharged on May 22, 1962. Ayupe married Carolyn Meagher on April 2, 1959 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake, NY, with Rev. Father John Crable officiating. She predeceased him on March 20, 2020. Ayupe began his career working alongside his parents at Shaheen's Market, a family-run business that he later took over with his brothers Joe and Tom and managed with dedication for many years. Under their stewardship, the market thrived and was passed down through generations, now proudly operated by the fourth generation of his family. Expanding their entrepreneurial pursuits, they also established the Shaheen's Motel on Park Street, which he and his wife successfully managed before eventually selling it.
Ayupe found great joy in visiting the casino, where he delighted in playing the slot machines and testing his luck at the blackjack and poker tables. A passionate enthusiast of horse racing, he also owned racehorses that competed at renowned tracks such as Saratoga Race Course and Vernon Downs. Above all, Ayupe cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love-and, much to their delight, a generous supply of candy and sweets.
