Barbara Gene Burke, 71, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2025. She was born in Washington County to the late Raymond Harris and Barbara Brooks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step father, Hobert Brooks, sister, Lynn Sheets, and brothers, Kenneth Harris and Dean Harris.
Barbara loved her family dearly. She enjoyed gardening, working puzzles, and especially caring for her cats, her favorite being Molly. Throughout her life, she worked hard in various roles, including with R.C. Harris Trucking Company, Washington County School System, Emory & Henry College, and the United States Postal Service. She was a dedicated worker who cherished every moment with her family.
She is survived by her significant other of 35 years, Bill McCready; her children, Brian Burke (Suzanne), Tanya Stillwell (Dewayne), and Josh Burke (Rebecca); her siblings, Doug Harris (Freida), David Harris (Judy), Mike Harris (Joy), Sherry Harris, and Leisa Heath (Allen). She also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren: Christopher Burke (Brittney), Samuel Burke (Brittany), Emily Burke (Dakota), Sheyanna Johnson (Brandon), Caleb Stillwell, Dylan Marshall (Hannah), Hannah Burke (Chris), and Zach Burke (Abby); as well as six great-grandchildren: Irelynd, Emilia, Briella, Nolan, Miller, and Aspen Grace. Many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
All services will be held privately by the family. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Home of Marion, VA, is honored to serve the family of Barbara Burke.
