Barbara Smith Hackney, age 91 of Dalton, GA, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Stone Henge Assisted Living in Blairsville, GA.
Barbara was born on December 21, 1933 in Resaca, GA, daughter of the late Melvin Dock Smith and Alma King Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her husband of 42 years, Billy Roy Hackney; one son, Julian “Gregory” Hackney; and sister, Marie Wood. Barbara worked for the Cobb County Tag Office for 28 years. She was of the Methodist faith and member of the Varnell Methodist Church. She enjoyed word puzzles and working in her yard. Barbara loved her family dearly and had a generous heart.
Barbara is survived by: her son, Jeff Hackney and his wife Angie; daughter, Donna Hackney; grandchildren, Michelle Arnold, Michael Evans, Heather Tucker, Lauren Hackney, Brett Hackney, and Devin Hackney; and great-grandchildren, Grant Arnold, Avery Arnold, Alyssa Gillean, Ryran Ray, Brian Ray, Deagan Evans, Evan Tucker, and Ella Tucker.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27, 2025 from 12 PM until 2 PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 2 PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend George Gray and Sonya Thompson officiating.
Pallbearers include Brett Hackney, Devin Hackney, Grant Arnold, Evan Tucker, Ryan Ray, Brian Ray, Michael Evans, and Deagan Evans.
Interment will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 11 AM in Gordon Memorial Gardens.
