Barbara Ruth Hopson, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and lifelong friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Born on October 18, 1940, her unwavering kindness marked her life, as well as her dedication to her family and her accomplished career. Her indelible mark was left on everyone lucky enough to know her. This included her hairdresser, Cassie; her neighbors, Diane & Louie; her dearest friends, Pat and Bunny; as well as countless others. Robert T and Robert M were friends and family, as well as guides throughout her life, and she spoke often and fondly of them both.
Barbara met her beloved husband, Jimmy Hopson, and together they built a life filled with love and adventure, until his passing in 2017. Their legacy continued through their devoted son, Phillip Hopson, and his wife, Suzanne of Granger, Indiana, and their grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Haley, and Ava. Barbara's joy was further multiplied by the arrival of her great-grandchildren, Sofia and Elena, who brought her happiness and plenty of laughter. She is also survived by her loved step-son and wife, Mark and Tesse Hopson, and dear nephew, Jamie. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Von and Phil.
Professionally, Barbara was a trailblazer, rising to the position of Vice President of Human Services in the banking industry. Barbara's commitment to her work was paralleled by her involvement in various associations, where she contributed her expertise and passion for helping others. Beyond her professional endeavors, Barbara's interests painted the picture of a woman who embraced life's pleasures with enthusiasm. An avid bridge player, she enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of the game, often sharing laughter and stories with her friends around the card table. Barbaras love for travel took her to many places, but she held a special fondness for the ocean, where she found a sense of peace. It was the simple things, such as her friendships within her Tennessee community, her neighbors, and her deep Southern heritage, that brought her comfort and happiness. The family was the cornerstone of Barbara's world. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, whether it was a quiet afternoon at home or an exciting family outing. Her love extended to the family's beloved boxer dog, Crane, who was a constant source of joy and companionship and whom she spoiled rotten with table scraps and dog treats.
Following Barbara's wishes, no services will be held. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com
