Barbara Brannon Marquez went to be with her Lord on July 9, 2025, while living at The Oaks at Evans, in Evans, Georgia. She was 91 years old.
Barbara was born in a military hospital in Atlanta, GA, to Mary Gore Brannon and John Latimer Brannon. Barbara lived most of her life in Lithia Springs, Georgia. The day after graduating from high school, she went to work at United Family Life Insurance Company in Atlanta. It was there that she met and married her future husband, Leoncio (Leo) Marquez. They were happily married for 70 years and had three children. Barbara worked full and part-time in various departments at United Family Life for 35 years. At her retirement, she was the executive secretary to the company's vice president.
Barbara was an active member of Lithia Springs Methodist Church for over 70 years. She taught children's Sunday School, assisted with numerous projects as a member of the Progressive Sunday School Class, the Sarah Bowden Unit of the Methodist Women, and the ladies' Bible studies. She especially enjoyed working on the annual fundraising drive for the Douglasville Pregnancy Resource Center's baby bottle project and collecting eyeglasses for Glasses for the Masses. For many years, she and Leo delivered meals in the community for Meals on Wheels.
Barbara was an avid reader, a bird watcher, and an animal lover. Her family, friends, and neighbors enjoyed the benefits of her exceptional cooking skills into her 90s.
She and Leo enjoyed a lifetime of travel. They took numerous stateside and international trips and many cruises with family and friends. Barbara had a genuine servant's heart. She was always eager to assist family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers in any way she could. She was a good listener, encourager, prayer warrior, and faithful friend to many. Barbara's greatest love, after her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by her large family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Marquez, and her brother, Curtis Edward Brannon.
She is survived by her children: Maria Russell (Ed), Andrew Marquez (Lori), Philip Marquez (Mary Beth); grandchildren: Meredith Kelly (Pat), Abigail McDougal (Andrew), Matthew Russell (Stephanie), Tawnia Vots (Alex), Thomas Marquez (Katie), Luke Marquez, Erin Tucker (Clark); great-grandchildren: Benjamin Kelly, Russell McDougal, Mary Hartman McDougal, Madi Thomas, Drew Thomas, Grant Vots, Anna Vots, and Palmer Marquez; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family is very grateful for the abundant prayers from her church and friends in Lithia Springs, her friends at Oaks in Evans, and her friends at Christ Church Presbyterian in Evans.
The family will receive friends at Hightower Memorial Chapel in Douglasville on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 10 am until 12:00 pm. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 12:00 pm with Reverend Thomas Long officiating. Karl Leyman, Danny Wine, Art Craddock, and Gabriel Randel will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Mozley's Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lithia Springs Methodist Church.
