Barbara J. Sterken, a cherished mother, grandmother, and a devoted member her community, passed away on September 13, 2024 at the age of 92. Born on September 30, 1931, Barbara spent her early years Sedalia, Missouri, where she was raised in a loving by her parents, Augustus R. and Erma E (Garner) Rush.
Barbara's journey through life was distinguished by her to her career and family. She retired from AT&T in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she served with commitment and professionalism. Her educational pursuits began at Smith Cotton High, and she furthered her studies at the University of Missouri, laying a strong foundation for her future endeavors.
A devoted mother to her two daughters, Debra Herndon of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Denice Loofboro of Janesville, Wisconsin, Barbara instilled in them the values of hard work, compassion, and resilience. She took immense pride in her family and was a guiding force in their lives.
Barbara's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Shawn Herndon of Indianapolis, Indiana, Amy Conner of Whitewater, Wisconsin, and Douglas Loofboro of Janesville, Wisconsin. She also adored her great-grandchildren, Kyrale, Todd, and Skyler Herndon, Robert and Amaya Conner, and was excited to witness the growth of her great-great-grandchildren, Asciyana Braxton, Avionte Braxton, and Asyin Morris.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin Sterken, who was a significant part of her life. She is remembered fondly by all who knew her for her warmth, strength, and loving spirit.
Her family and friends will carry her memory forward, cherishing the moments they shared and the love she imparted throughout her life. Barbara J. Sterken will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
