In the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, Barbara Rosalind Trujillo Bowden of Electra, Texas, beloved and treasured matriarch of her family, peacefully passed away at the age of 92.
Barbara was born October 3, 1932 in Apache Creek, New Mexico, to Manuel and Margaret Piño Trujillo. She grew up in Magdalena, New Mexico, and attended Magdalena High School where she graduated as valedictorian. After graduation, Barbara moved to California and worked in the U.S. Government Communications building in San Diego. There, a relationship developed with O.L. "Curley" Bowden, a friend of her brother Mackie, and the two married on October 16, 1951, in Yuma, Arizona. After a short time, Curley deployed with the U.S. Navy to Guam after the Korean conflict, and Barbara moved to Electra, Texas, with her new Bowden family. In the years that followed upon Curley's return, he and Barbara had three children and raised their family in Electra where they built their life together.
As their children grew, Barbara served as the first advisor for the Electra Youth Rodeo Club and was a member of the Electra Mule Riders, among other various community involvements. When Curley retired in 1988, he and Barbara began spending long summers in her hometown of Magdalena, New Mexico, where, together with their children and grandchildren, they created priceless memories.
Barbara was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Electra for almost 75 years, and more recently Christ the King Catholic Church in Iowa Park as well, where she served the parish through numerous ministries. Throughout her life, she demonstrated Christlike love and grace to all who crossed her path. She had a true servant's heart, and her presence will be dearly missed by all those who love her and were lucky enough to be loved by her.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Troy Bowden and wife, Cindy, of Electra and Benny Bowden and wife, Carla, of Iowa Park; one daughter, Donna Bowden, of Sanger, Texas; one sister and two brothers, Mary-Ann Lukesh, Manuel Trujillo, Jr., and Tommy Trujillo; twelve grandchildren, Cristina Manzel, Skyler Griffin, Andrea Ketchersid, J'Lynne Woolsey, Brandace Hardy, Lindsey Shelley, Stephen Bowden, Carmen Davis, Courtney Forsythe, Zoye Schuster, Brenlee Bowden, and Tatum Bowden; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Curley Bowden, who passed in 2014; her father and mother, Manuel and Margaret Piño Trujillo; four brothers, Macario "Mackie" Trujillo, Antonio "Tony" Trujillo, John "Joe" Trujillo, and Valentin "Val" Trujillo; and one sister, Cleo Trujillo Latasa.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Electra, Texas. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
A Rosary and Vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church. The family will receive visitors at the church from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. following the Rosary and Vigil service.
