After college, he worked for Polk County Engineers, retiring after 36 years. He married Janis (Shupe) Kennedy in the fall of 1993 at the Little Brown Church. Jan (his wife) passed away in 2010, that same year he retired, and a few years later, he moved back to Boone.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mom, and Dad.
Bart is survived by his brothers, Jeff (Pattie) Kennedy of Arvada, CO, and Todd (Debby) Kennedy of Moingona, IA, and his sister, Jana (Scott) Jones of Collins, IA. He was a beloved uncle and great uncle to Zachary (Charla Zsidisin), and Payton Kennedy of Colorado Springs, CO; Joshua (Heather), Kaylee and William Kennedy of Arvada, CO; Kaleb Kennedy of Arvada, CO; Nathan (Heather), Clark and Avery Kennedy of Westminster, CO; and Cory (Nicole), Camryn and Adelynn (Bruce) Kennedy of Collins, IA; Heidi (Brandon), Thomas and Nora Harrison of Des Moines, IA; Ryan (Nicole Hereen) Kennedy of Norwalk, IA; Jacob Engle of Ankeny, IA; Samuel (Audra) Engle of Waukee IA; Ithica Jones of Grimes, IA; Teara (Andrew) Tjaden of Cedar Falls, IA; and Gunnar Jones of Grimes, IA.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion.

Bart was honest caring and wore his heart on his sleeve. His passion for wrestling was only outdone by his honest sincerity and love of meeting people and knowing their stories. Remembering people and friends he met twenty years ago came naturally. I will never forget his"hey buddy" call and hope that others truly remember the kind humble person he was.

Todd and family...I remember Bart being so kind and never treated anyone like they were beneath him! He was a great guy and treated everyone with opening arms and acceptance...another great person gone from us though he leaves a lasting impression!
