Bernice Dix was born to Horace Sanders and Luvinia Mason in Dunbar, Louisiana on May 6, 1939, but raised in Natchez, Mississippi. She passed Thursday, July 17, 2025 at the age of 86 years. At the age of 9 years old she moved to Saginaw, Michigan. Bernice was educated through the Saginaw Public Schools.
Out of her marriage union with Brent C. Collins, Sr four children were born, Brent C. Collins, Jr, Antoine D. Collins, Tracy R. Collins and Sherry E. Collins-Liddell. She also raised her grandson, Will Collins.
Bernice was employed by General Motors and a member of UAW Local 668 as a general labor worker. She later married William Dix. She was baptized early in life and attended church for over 40 years at Freewill Baptist Church where she served for many years as a Head Usher. Later she became a faithful member of Corinthians Baptist Church. Bernice loved her family, community, and church family, especially the children and elderly. She was an integral part of the inspiring "Golden Girls" group at First Ward Community Center in Saginaw where she enjoyed connecting with fellow seniors.
During her life she was always willing to give a listening ear, loving prayer and was always there when needed. She lived a beautiful life according to I Corinthians 13:13 which states in part, "And now faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
Bernice hobbies were gardening, traveling, long car rides and fishing. Bernice raised her children on the fishing bank. She instilled in her children never to judge or discriminate against anyone but to love everyone regardless. She taught her children when you enter a room always be respectful, kind and acknowledge others. Bernice loved cooking. The family loved her favorite dishes, macaroni and cheese, potato salad and dressing.
She leaves to mourn, her children, Brent (Jacqueline) C. Collins, Jr, Antoine D. Collins, Tracy (David) R. Collins and Sherry (Goliday) E. Collins-Liddell; sister, Beatrice Chapman; grandchildren, Tequila (Youba) Traore, Will (Ashley) Collins, Brent C.
