Bessie Philmon Sirman, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
She was born in Donalsonville, Georgia and daughter of the late Virgil and Ruther Mae Runnels Jernigan. Bessie graduated from Miller County High School in 1948 at the age of 16. She enrolled at Georgia Southwest College for 2 years, then transferred to Troy State Teachers College for 2 years and received her B.A. in Education. She became an educator with the Duval County Public Schools and served at Sherwood Forest Elementary, Grand Park and North Shore Elementary. After 30 years in this field, she graduated with her Master's degree in special education. She was a long-time member at North Jacksonville Baptist Church and loved serving the Lord in many areas. A member of her Sorority, ADK, she received her 50-year pin in 2019.
Preceded in death by her spouses, Winston Eugene Philmon Sr. in 1973 and Velmer Sirman in 2017, 1 brother Harmon Jernigan and her son, Jesse Philmon. The surviving family include 2 sons: Winston Philmon Jr. (Mona) and Tim Philmon (Donna); 4 grandchildren; Clayton (Kim), Alison Younis (James), Dallas Philmon (Leslie), and Joshua Philmon, 7 great grandchildren; Brayden, Joshua, Nicolas, and Abigail Younis, Darcey Philmon, Gabriel, and Naomi Philmon; several nephews, great nephews and nieces, extended family and friends.
Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11:00 @ North Jacksonville Baptist Church, 8531 N. Main Street, with Rev. Chris A. Coram, officiating.
Her family will greet friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.
Graveside service and burial will be held at Union Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Missionary Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalsonville, Georgia with Pastor James Younis officiating.
Peeples Family Funeral Home and Evans-Skipper Funeral Home in Donalsonville, GA are serving the Sirman Family.
