Betty Hartness, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughter and 2 granddaughters on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Beloved mother of Jim (Kristy) Hartness and Kimberly Hartness. Cherished grandmother of Cassie (Paul) Paruolo, Tony (Cassie) Hartness, Nicole Hartness, Kayla Sotelo (Matthew Polner) and Syeddah "Ameenah" Shah. Dear great grandmother of Brynn and Khione Hartness. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim K. Hartness; parents, James and Mary McCoy; siblings, Laney Kate Berger, Maggie McCoy, Chester McCoy, Junior "Red" McCoy, Rachel Joy, Floyd McCoy and Lacie McCoy and several nieces and nephews.

Betty loved doing word search puzzles and watching game shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right. She also enjoyed watching Channel 7 news on a daily basis. Betty was a whiz with jigsaw puzzles and was always more than happy to put together a puzzle or two with her granddaughters. Many of her favorite activities included playing games with all of her grandchildren. Betty was also somewhat of a bird enthusiast. Not only did she enjoy watching the birds fly around her window but she also liked to collect bird knick knacks. Betty was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and often had the game on her television. Her daughter fondly remembers taking the train downtown to Wrigley Field for Cubs games with her mom and Aunt Maggie when she was younger. Blue grass/country was Betty's favorite type of music. Betty was born in Virginia and even though she moved to the Midwest when she was 11 years old she never lost that southern accent that everyone so fondly remembers. She is also remembered for being funny and sweet.

Betty will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
