Betty Marla Joyce, age 83, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 4, 1942, in Brownsville, Edmonson County, Kentucky, Betty was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ivol (Davis) Higgs. She was a 1960 graduate of Butler County High School in Morgantown, Kentucky.
On August 17, 1963, Betty married the love of her life, Lealand Newton Joyce, at the Church of Christ in Charlestown, Indiana. Together, they shared 62 years of a devoted and joyful marriage built on faith, laughter, and unconditional love.
Betty's professional life was marked by her warm smile and caring heart. She first retired from Chase Bank, where she worked as a dedicated bank teller. Later, she continued serving others as a medical receptionist at Jewish Hospital, retiring in 2020.
Betty had a natural gift for making those around her feel welcomed and cared for. She had a deep love for crafts and took great pride in her gardens, both floral and vegetable. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always ready with a kind word, a comforting hug, or a helping hand. Her joy for life was contagious-especially on bingo nights with her beloved bingo girls.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Lealand Newton Joyce of Sellersburg, Indiana; her children, Jason (Deborah) Joyce of Vero Beach, Florida, and Jessica (Erik) Velten of Henryville, Indiana; four cherished grandchildren, Logan (Haley) Rice of Clarksville, IN, Natalie Velten, Emma Velten, and Claire Velten, all of Henryville, IN; and two adored great-grandchildren, Lilah and Lennon Rice. She also leaves behind four siblings: Barry (Janie) Higgs of Henryville, IN; Dollie Rein of Henryville, IN; Jacob (Nancy) Higgs Jr. of Sellersburg, IN; and Michael (Stephanie) Higgs of Louisville, KY.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Brenda Abernathy and Bill Higgs.
Betty will be remembered for her kindness, her deep love for her family, and her unwavering faith. She lived a life of generosity and grace, and her legacy of love will continue to live on in those she leaves behind.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor T.C. Baker on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 5:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Henryville, Indiana.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025, from Noon until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made in Betty's memory to Safe Harbor Christian Church c/o Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 209 S. Ferguson St., Henryville, IN 47126.
