Dale H. VanBarg passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 98. Dale was born in Toledo, Ohio, on January 26, 1927, to Harold and Clara VanBarg. He grew up in North Toledo and was a graduate of Woodward High School. After high school, Dale served in the U.S. Navy and upon his return to Toledo, he met Dorothy (Gerry) G. Mignery, and they got married on September 21, 1947. They were together for 67 years prior to her passing away on July 18, 2015. Together they had three children, Alan VanBarg, who passed away as an infant, Michael (Judy) VanBarg, and Kathleen (Jim) Anderson, who both survive him.
In addition, Dale is survived by five grandchildren, John (Lea) Bland, Christie (Erik) Hofmann, Stacie (Sam) Holbrook, Michael (Ashley) VanBarg, and Andrew Anderson; and by five great-grandchildren, Jeffery (Yaya) Comes, Nathan Bland, Isabella Hernandez, Bailey Holbrook, and the latest addition, Bodhi VanBarg. Also, Dale is survived by his niece, Brenda Craig; and brother-in-law, Robert Henry. His parents, Harold and Clara VanBarg; sister, Joyce Henry; and nephews, Tim McStay and Larry Henry, all predeceased him.
Dale first worked at Beaver Tool for 30 years, and then at GM Powertrain (now known as Toledo Propulsion) for 17 years, retiring in 1990. Upon retirement, Dale and Gerry spent winters in Cocoa Beach, Florida, and spent the summer at their cottage at Brown Lake, near Orland, Indiana, until they sold it in 1997. From 1999 until the present time, they enjoyed summers at the family cottage at Lime Lake near Hudson, Michigan. Dale loved to feed the birds, watch the deer, fish, and enjoy a beer or two or more while sharing stories and laughs around the campfire on Saturday nights. He also loved to go the casino. He loved his sports, and his favorite teams were the Tigers, Lions and all the Toledo Teams, especially the Rocket Football and Basketball teams. Most of all he loved his family, and he always answered the call when help was needed.
There will be a Celebration of Dale's life on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 3-6 p.m., at the Brooklynn Park Villas Clubhouse, located at 6120 Dorr Street, Toledo, Ohio 43615. Anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Dale is asked to consider the Toledo Humane Society.
