Betty Sue Rumsey, age 86, of McEwen, TN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Betty was born in Hurricane Mills, TN, to the late John Ed and Ethel Louise Dunn Wallace.
Betty was a stay at home wife and mother, married to James W. Rumsey for 64 years before his passing in 2019. She loved taking care of her home and family; a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grandkids (especially Hunter Chase) and her great-grandkids always filled her heart with love and joy, as she did theirs. She was also a hardworking homemaker, gardener, preserving many fruits and vegetables by canning or freezing, and a great cook, again taking care of her family. She was blessed to have the opportunity to travel some with her husband, sister and brother-in-law out west, along with a few girl trips with her two sisters, cousin and sister-in-law. She was a member of the Bold Springs Church of Christ, most of her life, then of the McEwen Church of Christ. She loved God and spending time in His word. As with any of our special blessings in this life she will be missed, but treasured forever in our hearts. Thankful to know she is now truly home with no more pain or suffering, thanks to the gift of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation for Betty Sue Rumsey will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in McEwen, TN, from 11:30 A.M. until the time of service at 4:00 P.M. Bro. Joe James will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Young Cemetery in McEwen, TN.
Left to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters, Terri Tummins (Wade) and Rhonda Stewart (Ronnie), both of McEwen, TN; 8 Grandchildren, Jamie Stanfill (Daniel), Laurie Grigsby (Keith), Britteny Carter (Presley), Lindsey Hooper, Ethan Tummins (Holly), Hunter Stewart, MaKenzie Flaurr (Jayden), and Whitney Stewart (Chandler); 15 Great Grandchildren, Brayden Grigsby, Jack Grigsby, Aubree Stanfill, Danielle Carter, Alex Carter, Ronnianne Carter, Aiden Hooper, Lakynn Hooper, Colt Stanfill, Sawyer Grigsby, Hadlee Stanfill, Ryder Hooper, Abel Tummins, River Tummins, and Anna Brooke Grigsby; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, Braxton Burns and Alaska Burns; and 1 Sister Nancy Long, McEwen, TN.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Rumsey, daughter, Barbara Rumsey, parents, John Ed and Louise Wallace and her siblings, Harris Wallace, Billy Wayne Wallace and Linda Chessor.
