Betty Towne Obituary

Funeral service for Betty Adrienne (Mumby) Towne, 89, of Garvin will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Balaton beginning at 11:00 a.m. Public visitation will take place at the Remembrance Center Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton following the service.
Betty Adrienne (Mumby) Towne was born on October 30, 1935 to Verne Luella Fern Patterson and John William (Bill) Mumby in Balaton, MN. She grew up in Balaton and graduated from Balaton High School in the Spring of 1953. She married Darwin Leroy Towne on August 12, 1953 at Balaton Methodist Church. Betty was a secretary at Southwest Minnesota State University for over 25 years.
Betty was well known for her love of visiting with family and friends, as well as her gift for fun banter and coming up with pranks and jokes to keep the laughter going both at work and home. She loved her pets, baking, crafts, and coffee klatches with loved ones.
Betty passed away from natural causes at the Prairie Home Hospice McLaughlin House on Sunday, March 2, 2025. She was 89 years old.
She is survived by her children Roxanne (Ahmed) Nuhaily, Gary (SherLynn) Towne, Karen (Dave) Voth, Jeffrey (Jenny) Towne, Darwin (Jana) Towne; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Darwin; daughter Cheryl Towne; parents Verne and Bill; grandson Kevin Goettig; brothers Todd, Ronald and Robert.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to a local animal shelter or Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall.
We mourn the loss of Betty and will cherish fond memories of her warmth and hilarity.
