Betty Washington Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 1, 2025.
Betty Denice Washington was born on March 2nd, 1958 to George and Dorothy Washington in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She spent her early childhood years in Mississippi before the family relocated to Mount Vernon, New York in the late 1960's. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1976 and dabbled in modeling before she dedicated her life to serving others. While Betty worked to care for the homes, elderly and children of many families, her own family was her greatest love. She was a loving and dedicated daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, niece and cousin. Whether you knew her as Betty, Denice, Ms. Betty, Mommy, Ma, Auntie Betty, Sis, Cuz or Nan – you knew she was a force to be reckoned with. A natural beauty, she could command the attention of a room and make her presence known. She was smart, funny, sassy, and eager to tell you about yourself in a way that only she could get away with.
Betty spent her youth as a dedicated mom to daughters Vonetta and Quanah; however, her greatest joy was being a grandmother. She adopted the nickname "Nan" and loved spending her time spoiling her granddaughter Elizabeth, aka Ellie. As she told us at the very end, Ellie was her everything.
Betty loved cooking, baking, spending time with friends and family and relaxing by any body of water that she could find.
Betty entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, June 24th after an extended period of illness. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Dorothy and George Washington, and her sister Sandra Washington. She is survived by her daughters, Vonetta C. Wooten (Elder Jonathan Wooten) and Quanah Washington, her granddaughter Elizabeth Wooten, her two brothers, George Washington Jr. (Sherry), Joseph Washington and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved as though they were her own.
She will forever be in our hearts and will be deeply missed. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Betty, please visit our Tree Store.
