Beverly A. (Arruda) May, 89, died June 29, 2025 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John J. May, Jr. Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antone V. and Lena S. (Sylvester) Arruda, she lived in Dartmouth most of her life before returning to New Bedford. She worked as a secretary at Almeida Bus Company and later at National Wholesale in New Bedford.
Beverly was a gentle soul and always had a contagious smile. She is survived by her sister, Diana Henry of New Bedford, her son, David May (Aimee) of Fulton, New York, grandchildren Jacob May, Samuel May and Rebekah May all of Fulton, a nephew James Henry of New Hampshire and several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Attorney James L. Henry and niece Christina Kasinger.
The family thanks the staff at Brandon Woods New Bedford and Southcoast Hospice for their love and exceptional care of Beverly.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 19th at 11 AM in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd, East Freetown, MA 02717. Her family will receive guests at church from 10 - 11 AM prior to her Mass.
Donations can be made to Meeting Street, the Schwartz Center for the Tina Kasinger Fund or a charity of your choice.
