Billy Townsend Obituary

Mr. Billy W. Townsend, age 87, of Chatsworth, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at his home.
Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chatsworth for over 70 years. He spent 30 ½ years as the Agency Manager for the Murray County Georgia Farm Bureau. He was a chairman of the Sports Recreation Department of Murray County as well as a youth sports coach. Billy was also a member of the Chatsworth Lions Club and the Murray County Jaycees Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Townsend; mother, Stella Townsend; brothers, Rembert Townsend, Malvin Townsend, Calvin Townsend, Buel Townsend, and Ben Townsend Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce Townsend of Chatsworth; sons and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lori Townsend of Chatsworth and Tim Townsend of Atlanta, GA; daughter/sister-in-law, Vicky Love; grandchildren, Nicholas and Lindsey Townsend and Chad and Stephanie Townsend; great-grandchildren, Wilkes Townsend, Carter Townsend, Mac Townsend, Cole Townsend, and Kinsley Townsend; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Billy W. Townsend will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. George Ross officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Murray County Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. (P.O. Box 1932, Chatsworth, GA 30705)
