Bob was born on July, 6,1945 in Durham County to Rheunell Miller Lewis and Robert E. Lewis, Sr.. He grew up in East Durham and attended Durham City Schools, graduating from Durham High School in 1964.
He was preceded in death by daughter Jenny and by his parents. He leaves behind a loving family of wife, Andrea Ray Lewis; daughter Kimberly L. Apple and son-in-law, Dennis L. Apple; granddaughter, Kelly Apple and fiance, Joshua Speas; grandson, James Apple; brother, Dana N. Lewis and wife, Meg Lewis; sister-in-law, Laura Ray; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
After working in various retail jobs, Bob went back to school, graduating with a B.A. degree in Education from North Carolina Central University in Durham. He taught at Holton Middle School in Durham and at Orange High School in Orange County, where he taught math and Driver's Education and coached basketball and track.
He was a member of Hillsborough United Methodist Church and U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary Flotilla 98 in Chapel Hill. He loved his family and friends, his beloved Carolina Tar Heels, his cat Peanut, the beach, fishing, and just sitting and visiting with family and friends.
We thank the UNC Hillsborough Hospital Hospice Care Team for their loving and supportive care for Bob and family during his last two weeks. We appreciate all the family members and friends who visited him,who called or texted, and who were constantly in prayer for him and us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Hillsborough United Methodist Church located at 130 W. Tryon Street,
