Robert Dean Widmer, son of William and Edith Edwards Widmer, was born on October 31, 1936 at Wayland, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Winfield High School in 1955. He enlisted in the US Army in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He served in Korea as a chauffeur. On June 3, 1962, Bob was united in marriage to Judith Ritter at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They became the parents of three children, Kimberly, Kevin and Kathleen. Bob worked for several area farmers before farming on his own until 2004 when he and his son Kevin began custom cattle feeding until his retirement at the age of 87. Bob was a very caring, loving, and generous man that commanded respect. He had strict rules for his children and that has carried on to his grandchildren. He rarely missed church on Sunday and was a member of Farm Bureau, the Cattleman's Association, Pork Producers, the FS Board, and the Montezuma School Board of which he was instrumental in starting the wrestling program with several other board members. Bob was a proud supporter of all Montezuma sports. To his children, he was the hardest working man they knew and he taught them honor, integrity, discipline and respect. He never passed up a home cooked meal and ice cream was always his choice of dessert.
Bob is survived by his children; Kim (Bruce) Wehrle of Montezuma, Kevin Widmer of Malcom, and Kathy (Jeremiah) Moore of La Porte City, Iowa; his grandchildren, Morgan Berstler, Jake (Amy) Berstler, Mary (Larry Somerville) Widmer, Robert (Emily Gus) Widmer, Jessica (Travis) Mott, Dylan Felderman and Aidan (Hannah Crane) Felderman; numerous great grandchildren, Shane, Henry, Iris, Kennady and Archer; his sister-in-law, LaRena Widmer, and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith in 2019; his brothers, Richard "Slim" Widmer and Rex Widmer; son-in-law, Kevin Hart and nephew, Mark Widmer.
