Bobbie McKinney Pitts Whitaker, age 91, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed peacefully on June 27, 2025, at Elk River Health and Nursing Center.
Born on December 11, 1933, in Fayetteville, Bobbie was the daughter of the late H.K. McKinney and Mary Short McKinney. She received her early education in the Market Street school system and later attended West End High School. Her strong foundation in faith and education shaped the compassionate, dedicated woman she would become.
Bobbie accepted Christ at a young age and spent her life walking in His grace. A lifelong member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Her devotion to the Lord was evident in the way she lived-with humility, love, and an unwavering desire to care for those around her.
She worked for many years at Genesco, until her retirement. Throughout her life, Bobbie took on many roles, but none more important than being a caretaker. Whether through her career or personal life, she gave her time, energy, and love to others in every capacity she could, always willing to lend a hand, a prayer, or a warm embrace. She never met a stranger and loved to talk! Her favorite phrase whenever she encountered someone was: "How's it Going".
Survivors include her sister, Martha Edna McKinney Fuller; grandchildren, Pamela Bryson, Tarren Pitts, and Aaron Pitts; great-grandchildren, Amari Bryson, Vincent Buchanan, Shia Pitts, and Nilyason Pitts; as well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and dear family friends.
In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, James Whitaker; children, Jeffrey Pitts and Jacqueline Bryson; and her siblings: William Thomas Kelso, E.B. McKinney, Freddie McKinney, Harold McKinney, Nancy Kelso Raddler, Carol McKinney Conley, and Katherine Kelso Neese.
A funeral service to celebrate Bobbie's life will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Higgins Funeral Home with Tony Conley, and Craig Carmichael officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10 AM until 12 PM on Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home.
Though her earthly journey has ended, Bobbie's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her life was a testimony of faith, resilience, and unconditional love.
Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Bobby McKinney Pitts Whitaker.
