Bobby Lucas, 90, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at his home.
He was born on November 19, 1934 in Roanoke, VA to the late Weaver Brown Lucas and Beatrice Gilmore Lucas and was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley M. Lucas, brothers, Linwood Lucas and sisters, Juanita Brown and Velma Graves.
Bobby graduated from Virginia Tech in 1956 with a BS in Agricultural Engineering. He joined the Navy in 1957 and proudly served 3 years aboard the USS Intrepid as a Lieutenant. He was a resident of Roanoke Rapids for more than 60 years, where he was active in Jaycees, Masons ( Scottish Rite Mason for 50 years), Shriners and the Lions Club. His career included work with VA Power Company, BCBS, and International Paper. Bobby was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years where he was active in the choir. He had many hobbies including spending time at the beach, salt water fishing, golfing, and traveling, especially on cruises.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Jean Ricks Lucas; sons, Steven B. Lucas (Tara) of Huntersville, NC and Scott W. Lucas (Camilla) of Belmont, NC; grandchildren, Evan S. Lucas, Emily G. Lucas, Adam S. Lucas, Lauren E. Lucas and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his step -daughters, Lisbeth Benjelloun (Ben) of Warrenton VA, and Katherine Askew (Doug) of Roanoke Rapids and step-daughter-in-law, Jane Ricks and step-grandchildren, Kelli Long, Zakary Askew, Zoe Askew, Mimi Benjelloun, Stephen and Keith Ricks.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rosemary United Methodist Church (music ministry) in Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Rosemary United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Porter officiating.
Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
