Mr. Bobby Gene Wood, age 82, of Traphill, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Born on April 28, 1943, in Wilkes County to Joseph Franklin Wood and Pheba Durham Wood, Bobby lived a life rooted in service, family, faith, and the soil of his home.
A devoted cattle farmer, Bobby found purpose and peace in the rhythms of farm life. He took pride in tending to his land and livestock, embodying the quiet strength and work ethic that defined his character. His connection to the land was as enduring as his love for those around him.
He was a charter member of the Traphill Fire Department, serving faithfully for fifty years. Whether responding to a neighbor's call or simply lending a helping hand, Bobby was known for his generosity and grit.
Known for his gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to family, Bobby found joy in simple pleasures—riding his tractor and golf cart, reminiscing about his horseback-riding days, and spending cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter filled his heart with pride.
A member of Knobbs Baptist Church, Bobby’s life reflected the values he held dear—faith, humility, and unconditional love.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Faye Anthony Wood; sons, Manleff Royal of Yadkinville, Sammy Wood of Jonesville, and Robert Wood and wife Ali of Traphill; daughters, Matoska Richardson and husband Paige of Glade Valley, Jane Johnson and husband Jerry of Millers Creek, and Sharon Barber and husband Jeff of Mt. Airy; his brother David Wood and wife Kathy of Traphill; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.
A funeral service honoring Bobby's life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Knobbs Baptist Church, with Rev. Keith Wood and Rev. Danny Bauguess officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, July 21, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made in Bobby’s name to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
