Bonnie "Evelyn" Alexander
November 15, 1937 - June 1, 2025
Bonnie "Evelyn" Alexander, 87, of Buford, GA; a beautiful and exceptional lady, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 1, 2025. She was born on November 15, 1937 in Hamilton County, Texas to Weldon and Mildred Russell Pierce. She is survived by daughters, Renée (Harold) Trip and Letisa McKenzie and grandson, Harold "Trey" Trip III. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George Alexander and brother Weldon Lavon Pierce. She was the personification of determination, never intimidated, who always loved and supported her daughters and family.
A dedicated educator, Evelyn taught Early Childhood Development and ESL in Aransas Pass, Kingsville, Orange Grove and Robstown, Texas. She earned her Bachelor's Degree at Howard Payne University and Masters Degrees at Texas A & I University in Kingsville. Her legacy shines brightly in her family and the countless students she inspired.
In 2021, Evelyn moved to Georgia to be near her family. She attended Sugar Hill Church where she sang in the choir. She quickly became a member of the Buford Lanier Woman's Club. Evelyn was an avid fan and supporter of collegiate sports. She was always ready for the next adventure and enjoyed traveling across North America and Europe. Known as "Grandma" to the neighborhood children, she cherished front porch visits with her neighbors and delighted in handing out lots of candy on Halloween. She particularly took pleasure in spending time with her family and friends and was well known for a family favorite - sharing her decadent banana pudding.
Before moving to Georgia, Evelyn was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Kingsville, Texas where she sang in the choir and chaired the Hospitality and Centennial Committees. She was also an active member in the Kingsville Women's Club for 50 years, University Women's Club and the Agarita Garden Club. Evelyn's countless contributions to her community, paired with her infectious laughter and radiant smiles, will be fondly remembered.
A visitation with Evelyn's family and friends will be held on Friday, June 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Buford, GA. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, June 7th at 10 AM in the Chapel of Sugar Hill Church, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park in Peachtree Corners.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests tax-deductible memorial donations to Neighborhood Meals on Wheels, supporting elderly residents in the Gwinnett County area, at neighborhoodmealsonwheels.org/donate, or the Buford Lanier Woman's Club, P.
