Brenda Stanfill Lafferty, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Memphis, TN the afternoon of Sunday, June 1, 2025, with her husband by her side. She was 78 years old.
Brenda was born at home in Sardis, TN, on January 18, 1947, to the late Bessie and Reaford Stanfill. Growing up on a farm instilled in Brenda a love of the outdoors, which she nourished throughout her life as an avid gardener and golfer. She enjoyed her time with Jim, as well as being grandparents to Lindsay and Christian, traveling, and having fun with friends.
She was a 1964 graduate of Sardis High School, where she played basketball and was honored as Future Farmer Sweetheart. Brenda was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and a 1968 graduate of Memphis State University. She was a business teacher at Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, TN, and a realtor in Germantown, TN, and Bloomfield Hills, MI. Jim and Brenda lived in several places during their marriage, including Puerto Rico; Mexico City; and Abita Springs, LA, before returning to Memphis. With each new city, Jim and Brenda added new friends who became part of their extended family.
Brenda is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 57 years, James Thomas Lafferty; her children, Kevin Lafferty (Micky) and Kristine Protopsaltis (Dimitri); and her grandchildren, Lindsay Protopsaltis and Christian Protopsaltis.
Brenda is preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Stanfill, and sister Patrica Ann Sellers. She is survived by her brother Steve Stanfill (Judy) and Tammy Robertson (Don).
A celebration of life will be held at Reed's Chapel, 11275 Sardis-Scotts Hill Rd, Scotts Hill, TN, Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 3-5 pm.
