Bruce Dennis Burns, 73, of Marion, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Bruce was born in Tiffin, Ohio on October 19, 1948 the son of Joseph S. Burns and Marie Elizabeth (Mahoney).
Bruce was a member of the Harding High School Class of 1966. He continued his education at The Ohio State University Marion branch. He married Paula Townsend in 1969 and together they had two daughters. As a teenager, Bruce started his career with the Standard Oil Co. (SOHIO). With SOHIO he advanced from an attendant to an area manager and eventually became the owner of the SOHIO service station in Waldo, Ohio. He concluded his career as maintenance supervisor at Kings Mill Golf Course.
He was a member of Central Christian Church and the Marion Elks Lodge #32. He enjoyed bowling and model train building. Bruce was an avid golfer. He played over 60 courses over the years achieving three hole-in-ones. Personally, he made many memories on fishing trips to Canada with his wife, daughters, parents, siblings, nieces, and nephew.
He is survived by his daughters Angela Griffith (Jon Mitchell) and Sara Benedetto (Joseph), stepson, Shane Gabriel (Stacy), stepdaughter, Kelle Gabriel, former wife Paula Burns, grandchildren, Mason Griffith (Hannah), Emily Price (Nic), Gavin Griffith, Raiden Sipes, Matt Gabriel, Graham Sherbourne, Collin Gabriel, Brycen Gabriel, Boston Osborne, Lily Osborne, brother, Carl Burns (Sue) of Arkansas, sister, Cindy Nicholson of Ohio, nieces, Amy Walkenbach (Bill), Meg Bottorff (Carey), nephew, Jeff Burns, great nieces & nephews, and his companion, Judy Wilson. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Cindy (Winters) Burns.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank You" to Capital City Hospice for their exceptional care. Friends and family may come to an informal celebration of Bruce's life at the Boyd Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 10th, 2021, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Safety City in Bruce's name.
