Clifford Thayne Nordland, or as most people knew him, "Thayne" was born on August 10, 1952, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He passed away on February 19, 2026. He was 73 years old.
Thayne was the son of Clifford and Velma (Wright) Nordland. He grew up on their family farm near the Ellendale/Geneva area, where he developed the strong work ethic that would continue throughout his life. He helped out in countless ways and especially cherished working alongside his dad.
On August 22, 1972 he married Becky (Marcus) Nordland. Shortly after, he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for four years. His service took them to San Diego, California where Thayne and Becky lived until he completed his active duty assignment.
Following his time in the service, Thayne and Becky moved back to Minnesota to be closer to family and begin raising their own. Thayne began working at Interstate Motor Trucks, where he remained until his retirement in 2024. True to his character, his dedication and work ethic shined through as he worked his way up to General Manager, overseeing sales at both the Albert Lea and Mason City offices.
Over the next eight years, Thayne and Becky welcomed three children - Amber, Kyle and Brody. Thayne was the kind of dad any kid would be lucky to have. He coached their sports teams, made the small things seem special and showed unwavering love and support. He later became an adoring grandpa to his seven grandchildren - Lauren, Aubrey, Cooper, Lucy, Odin, Marcus and Alrik - each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Thayne had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar. He also loved attending live music events, especially when he could share those experiences with his children. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and he and Becky maintained a permanent campsite at Hickory Hills for many years, welcoming family and friends to gather and make memories together. He loved to cook and often showed his affection by feeding others - it was definitely one of his love languages.
Thayne left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He had the kindest heart and a servant’s spirit, putting others before himself and instilling that same value in his children. His greatest joy in life was simply spending time with those he loved.
Thayne’s legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Nordland of Albert Lea; daughter Amber (Jesse) and grandchildren Cooper and Lucy; son Kyle (Amy) and grandchildren Lauren and Aubrey; and son Brody (Brittany) and grandchildren Odin, Marcus and Alrik.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Velma Nordland; his sisters, Geri, Audrey, and Connie; his in-laws, Don and Ruth Marcus; and his sister-in-law, Mary
