Mapleton- Carlton "Carl" Joseph Saucier, 71, passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife and son by his side, on July 12, 2025. He was born to Norman and Edna (Plourde) Saucier on November 13, 1953, in Eagle Lake, Maine. He was the eldest brother of 9, a role that he held with great pride, care and responsibility. Regardless of time gone by, or the age; the banter, teasing, and love remain in abundance among his siblings. Growing up, he enjoyed spending his time outside hunting, fishing, playing hockey and working on cars.
Carl graduated in 1972 from Presque Isle High School and married his loving wife of 52 years Nancy (Tardy) Saucier of Fort Fairfield. Together they began their dream of establishing a home and family.
Carl spent some years farming before he was employed at Haines Manufacturing where he honed his skills as a talented welder and metal fabricator. He was gifted in designing, fixing, creating and working with his hands. He loved to build everything from race cars, flat beds on trucks, and even a specially designed go-kart for his children. He built his own home, and fully built a skidder that he later used to launch his own business. He completed all repairs and projects with his own two hands, enlisting the help of his brothers; and later in time, his son. He left Haines to pursue his passion for being in the outdoors and started his own logging business, "Saucier Logging". He made a successful 30 year career in the industry and for a time, employed his brothers Raymond and David, creating many cherished memories and stories. Carl took great pride in honest, hard work all done by hand, with mindfulness in the preservation of our natural resources; a testament to his true love for nature, one that he passed on to his daughter.
In retirement, he enjoyed his peace and quiet, his time visiting with family and friends, canning tomatoes (just like his dad), walks in the woods, sipping apricot brandy, playing (and often claiming victory in) a game of pool, his special projects with his son Carl - building a shop (aka The Town Line Pool Hall), restoring a 1947 Farmall tractor, restoring his old 1981 Chevy, and adding a front porch with two rocking chairs to his home for he and Nancy.
Carl was quiet, introspected, but quick with a smile, a hearty laugh, or a witty comeback. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, was intentional and thoughtful. He liked to tease, play practical jokes and had a playful sense of humor. He did love to tell a good story and his lightheartedness shone through. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that never hesitated to help, create, support and provide for his family.
One of his greatest joys was in becoming a grandfather. It was a role he embraced with a gentle and new found softness, as he played an intricate part in raising "his girls", Meg and Mia.
Carl was predeceased by both of his parents and his younger brother Joe Saucier. He will be lovingly remembered and cherished by his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Tardy) Saucier, his daughter Angel (Saucier) Casavant and her husband Chris; his son Carl Saucier; granddaughters, Meg and Mia Casavant; siblings Patricia Christy and husband Rodney, Marcella O'Palka and late husband Richard, Raymond Saucier, Michael Saucier and wife Debbie, David Saucier and fiancé Emily Allen, Pamela Christy and Scott Thomas, Tina Tompkins and husband John Thyng; sister-in-law Linda McShea and husband James as well as many nieces and nephews.
Per Carlton's wishes there will be no services.
