Carmine Mauro, 94, of Edison, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Born and raised in Newark, he resided in Edison since 1962. He worked for Toyota as a truck driver at Port Newark. He was a parishioner at St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen.
Carmine was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan Marie Mauro (d.2010), his sons, Michael Mauro (d.2016) and Carmine Mauro (d.2020), and siblings, Dominick Mauro, Rocco Mauro, and Louise Calabrese.
Surviving are his sister, Angela Serratelli; three granddaughters, Nicole Mauro and her husband Robert Wnorowski, Danielle Mauro-Taylor and her husband Justin Taylor, and Alexa Mauro; great-granddaughter, Sofia Wnorowski; daughter-in-law Deborah Mauro, as well as many extended family and friends.
Carmine was hardworking and devoted to his family and was well known and adored by many. He was a lifelong fan of the Yankees and Giants. In his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife and golfing. He was a proud Italian American who liked to read the Italian Tribune and had a great appreciation for Italian food, often cooking family recipes with his granddaughters. Visiting with his friends, family, and neighbors and offering a helping hand was his favorite way to spend his time. He donated often and generously to many charities throughout his life. Carmine enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing the picket, going to the library, chewing cigars, watching classic movies and television shows, and telling stories.
The Funeral will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 9:45am at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen, followed by a 10:15am Funeral Mass at St. Francis cathedral, Metuchen. The entombment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
The visitation is Thursday from 3-8pm.
