CAROL MARIE FLANAGAN

LOUDONVILLE - Carol Marie Flanagan, 86, of Loudonville, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in 1938 in Queens, New York, Carol was the daughter of the late John and Aida (Cariello) Schildnecht. She was a proud graduate of Jamaica High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from St. John's University, followed by a master's degree in teaching from Columbia University.

From a young age, Carol had a fondness for British sports cars-a passion that would serendipitously introduce her to the love of her life, Charles Flanagan. The two were married on July 8, 1961. During Charles's military service at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, the couple lived in the western U.S. before returning to Long Island, where Carol worked as a dedicated teacher for the Levittown Central School District.

In 1967, Carol and Charles settled in Loudonville, where they raised their family and built a home full of warmth and memories-the same home where Carol would later pass, surrounded by love. While she devoted many years to raising her children as a homemaker, Carol later returned to the workforce, working nights at BOCES in Troy and later serving in an accounting role with the New York State Department of Social Services.

In retirement, Carol and Charles found joy in travel, enjoying trips throughout Europe, the Galápagos Islands, and visiting dear friends in Argentina. Though she loved to explore the world, Carol's greatest joy came from being with her family.

She will be remembered for her intelligence, sense of adventure, devotion to her loved ones, and the deep love she shared with her husband, family, and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband, Charles, Carol is survived by her two children, Daniel (Corine) Flanagan; her daughter Suzanne (Troy) Torrison; three cherished grandchildren: Neala (Jason) Flanagan, Calea (Andy) Balcomb, and Emma Torrison; as well as seven adored great-grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her sister Joan (Kit) Kell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Road, Latham. Visitation will take place in the chapel from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the main church at 10:00 a.m. Private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
