In Loving Memory of Carol Susan Harris-Bookwalter

October 16, 1942 – July 29, 2025

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Carol Susan Harris-Bookwalter, who departed this life on July 29, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on October 16, 1942, in the peaceful town of Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, Carol lived a life centered on family, laughter, resilience, and unconditional love.

Carol was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Harris, and in later years, found love again with her devoted husband James Bookwalter, who survives her. She was the proud and loving mother of Robin Walsh (Mick), Tammy Leonard (Rob), Ron Harris (Susan), and Bobby Bookwalter (Sharon). Her legacy continues through her 13 cherished grandchildren and an incredible 25 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Though she held a high school diploma, Carol’s most significant and fulfilling role was as a housewife and domestic goddess. She created a warm, welcoming home filled with comfort food, hugs, and an open door. Her family was her world, and she cared for each member with a fierce and tender heart.

Carol had an uncanny ability to bring people together. Her laughter was infectious, her wisdom quiet but steadfast, and her presence comforting in even the toughest of times. She loved deeply and gave freely — of her time, her heart, and her unwavering support.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, MD, immediately followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are warmly invited to a Celebration of Life following the service at 1116 Pemberton Ln, Lothian, MD 20711, where memories will be shared, stories told, and Carol’s life honored in the way she lived it — with love, laughter, and community.

Carol will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the lives she touched. She was truly the heart of her family, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.”
— Helen Keller
