Carol Cravens Whitten passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 75 at North Hills Life Care in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was the only daughter of Austin Cravens and Helen Jones Cravens. Carol grew up in Springdale, Arkansas, and graduated from Springdale High School in 1967. Carol was a member of the band and loved writing and reading poetry-a passion she continued throughout her life. Carol married Bill Preece while attending the University of Arkansas, where she earned a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education in 1971. She later lived in Fort Smith and worked for the State of Arkansas Social Services department. Carol then married Larry Whitten, and the couple continued to make their home in Fort Smith. After his death, Carol moved back to Springdale and spent the last twenty years of her life as an active resident of North Hills Life Care. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Carol became involved in the local MS Society, offering support and advocacy for others facing similar challenges. She was a lifelong fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Green Bay Packers. For many years, Carol was known as the "Scanner Lady" and enjoyed keeping the local news team at Channel 40/29 notified of breaking police activity. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, Arkansas.
