Caroline W. Carrington, 92, of South Prince George, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Born in Petersburg, VA on November 4, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Ida Dunn Tench Wohlhueter. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, James R. Carrington, Sr., and her brothers, Clifford A. Mayes (Mary) and James R. Wohlhueter (Gerry).
Caroline began her career in the grocery industry at Hines Grocery Store in Colonial Heights working in the meat department, where she also ended her career as the store manager. Along the way, she worked at Winn Dixie in Prince George as a Bakery Manager, and held positions at Gates Foodland, Liberty, and Choices Grocery Stores. She grew up attending Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. She enjoyed camping with her husband and group of friends, traveling to many beautiful places. Caroline enjoyed bird watching and had a deep love for her family. She was always there for her loved ones, keeping up with everyone’s lives and making sure they felt cherished.
She is survived by her sons, James Richard Carrington, Jr. and wife, Patricia, Thomas R. Carrington and wife, Jean, and John F. Carrington and wife, Joanne; daughter, Cathi L. Carrington-Cleveland and husband, John; grandchildren, Mary Caroline “Keri” Weaver (Brian), Charles Thomas Carrington (Fedlie), Lisa Ann Cleveland, Robert Alexander Carrington (Cazmeairah), Sydney Carrington Rystrom (Chase), Amber Gonzales (Richard), Ryan Walker (Rebecca), Chalyn Corley, and Chelsea Troupe (Owen); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beverly McDowell Branch; nieces, Jewel “Ricki” Malerich (Allan) and Kim Branch Barbour; nephew, C.A. “Rusty” Mayes (Brenda) and many other extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S Prince George, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prince George County Police Department, 6600 Courthouse Road, Prince George, Virginia 23875, or to Prince George County Fire and EMS, P.O. Box 68 Prince George, VA 23875.
